Chekhov are a four piece [insert-genre-here] band. They are kind of electric and acoustic. Inspired by a rabbit that hasn't been fed, the band evolved from complete disorder. They picked up and lost numerous members, went through a series of politically-incorrect names, had a series of run-ins with priests, cats, Russian literature and angry Yorkshire men before finally forming the four-strong band that is Chekhov.
Some have called their music 'out of time', 'depressingly truthful' and 'difficult listening' whilst others dubbed their sound 'the love-child of Tolstoy and Johnny Cash'. Regardless of such nonsense Chekhov has taken a universe of music, words, pictures and stories, and crammed it into a series of songs that combine acoustic and electric music in a raw unique way. The band insist that all their releases are 'conceptual'. Whilst infinitely mysterious, their creative process is highly symbiotic and deals with themes so massive that they require a lot of songs to work out.
They are soon to release an EP, provisionally entitled Lone Sombre Boom which they hope to release in the early weeks of 2010. The band have also begun work on a full length album and on their myspace you will find some tracks from an acoustic session they recorded for a Bearfaced Podcast.
